Double Gameweek 36 Review: Cechmate
It isn't often that a goalkeeper makes the headlines, but Petr Cech deserves an honourable mention. The veteran became the first goalkeeper of the season to be the highest point-scorer of a gameweek. Arsenal pulled off two surprising clean sheets after leaking 6 goals and only keeping 1 shut-out in the four previous games. Cech's two save points took his points up to 15 from two tricky fixtures against Man Utd and Southampton.
This double was supposed to be all about one man who plays for Arsenal, but not the keeper. Those who put the triple captain on Alexis Sanchez would have had their nails chewed off watching both Arsenal games, but 150 minutes into the gameweek they suddenly had an extra 15 points and a healthy total. Sometimes a double gameweek gamble can pay off, but the lure triple captaining the Arsenal man smelt of Lukaku's two blanks last season, a trap whereby it seemed so obvious it was doomed to fail.
This blog warned that Sanchez was not in his usual form in front of goal, and the same criticism of the pricey mid remains, but with Hazard also out of form there are few better options. His well taken goal may have signalled his blip may have come to an end.
It was nothing like the three goals he managed in the double gameweek last season but Sanchez still managed to rack up 11 points, the highest of any attacking player from the two stand-out clubs of the GW. If the Chilean leaves the Premier League this summer, it's safe to say his explosive goals returns from midfield will be missed, as the most prolific goalscoring midfielder of any player in the history of the game.
