DOUBLE OVERTIME MATCH ENDS IN 2-2 TIE

Is anyone else still recovering from the soccer match last night or just me? Louisville and Kentucky took to the pitch at Lynn Stadium Tuesday evening in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass and battled to a 110 minute, double overtime 2-2 tie in front of a raucous crowd armed with Thunder Sticks. The top ten Cards remain undefeated, though, as do the Wildcats.

All the scoring in this one happened in the first half. They say a tie is liking kissing your sister. On a beautiful night at Lynn, maybe people on the west side berm were doing some kissing on their blankets, but it probably didn't involve sisters.

If you haven't had the chance to see soccer in Lynn Stadium, you need to put that on your bucket list. It is a fun, friendly and family atmosphere...with a nice berm for families, a playground and concessions. Watching soccer in a specially designed and built soccer facility is indeed a pleasurable viewing experience and, in case you hadn't noticed, both the UofL squads are very good this year. I hope to see you out there!

The UofL women's soccer team is no doubt still celebrating their goal in the final minutes by freshman Morgan Dewey against SEMO to defeat the RedHawks 1-0 the other evening. These kicking Cards are 5-1 on the season, looking good and well on their way to fulfilling Case's prediction of a 12-win season. They got further good news yesterday when Emina Ekic was named ACC Women's Soccer's Offensive Player of the Week.

The talented freshman leads Louisville women's soccer in scoring with four goals on the season (including two against Kentucky last week). Come out to see these Kickin' Cards on Friday night when they host the Purdue Boilermakers at 7:30. One thing we can count on is that there probably aren't any Brohm's associated with this Purdue squad. As Paulie said yesterday -- Go. Cards. Beat. Purdue!

Lacrosse has begun their fall practice season and with plenty of new faces -- they appear to be just as good as last season. They'll be looking for new scorers this year. Maybe they can sneak the pride of Lakeville, MN. Hannah Koloski back out there for a few games. A Cardinal that lacrosse fans will remember is Faye Brust. She's a new assistant coach for the LAXers and knew a thing or two about finding her net during her playing days.

Over at Trager Field, the Field Hockey team is #9 in the national rankings. Top ten is where this squad belongs. If there is a downside to this (a downside to being highly ranked, you say?) is that they are in the middle of the pack in the ACC. The ACC has six of the top ten in the NFHCA Coaches poll. Duke is #1, UNC #4, Syracuse #5, Boston College #8, the Cards #9 and Virginia #10.

It is very surprising that Delaware (who the Cards beat earlier in the season) is still ranked #6. Maybe the coaches aren't paying much attention to what's going on in non-conference play or Elena Della Donne decided to skip the WNBA playoffs and come back to use a year of eligibility in a different sport?

The Cardinal Classic for Volleyball is history and I did get a chance to catch the Saturday action. Paulie will be inserting some of the pictures I took, hopefully, in articles this year. Mark my words -- this Cardinal team will be ranked later on in the season.

With Football, Volleyball and Field Hockey all on the road this weekend, why not go in the Lynn and watch UofL soccer on Friday and Saturday nights? As we mentioned, the WSOC squad faces Purdue Friday and the men will face #2 Wake Forest on Saturday.

I'll see you on the radio Saturday. Have a great rest of the week Cardinal Couple readers!
