Doggy's Doghouse 11/13/17
The second half? Not to great, but it was clear that UConn left their intensity in the locker room after the first 20 minutes. To me, it's not even worth talking about. I will leave that to the negative nellies on the message boards. I'm sure that in worrying about future games, they will be referring to this have as an indicator of how UConn will perform going forward.
After watching Stanford lose to Ohio State on Friday night, I was positive that UConn would beat Stanford handily.
I'll put together a full post game report sometime this week (hopefully Monday). But in the meantime, a few observations.
Crystal. Whew. What can I say. What a difference a year makes. So composed. And her outside shot was scary good. I'm sure that the law of averages will have her miss some, but that performance was a thing of beauty.
Samuelson is doing exactly what she said she would do. Add more diversity to her offensive game and improve her defense,
Williams is as dangerous around the basket as any 5'11" player I've ever seen.
UConn's defense was just too quick and strong for Brittany McPhee to handle. I think she is a very good player, but UConn's defense is just at a different level.
SO much more to say. I'll save it for my post game report.
Enjoy all the links below!!!

In one of the most exciting WCBB game you will ever see, No. 9 Louisville defeated No. 5 Ohio State in overtime 95-90.
Azia Durr was just phenomenal in this game. She score 47 points on an amazing 9-15 three pointers. You would think after the first 10 Ohio State would guard her more closely outside the arc but she is so strong with her left hand, it's just hard to do that.
Stephanie Mavunga was again mortal after her insane 26 rebound performance Friday against Stanford. In her 30 minutes, she only garnered 6 rebounds and only 2 on the offensive end.
If you have a chance to watch the replay on ESPN3 do it. At least the fourth quarter and overtime!

Tennessee ahhhh Tennessee.
Their fans get so excited about wins against overmatched teams. Yeah, UConn fans do to, but at least we have good reason...lol.
The Lady Vols beat up on East Tennessee State 87-49 in their season opener. They were led by their two star seniors, Jamie Nared and Mercedes Russell who both had double-doubles. Nared had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Russell had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
ETSU had only one player as tall as 6'2 and she played only 17 minutes. It's exactly the type of game that Russell dominated last season. At 6'6" she better.
So, how did the highly regarded freshman do in their first real game? It was a mixed bag as you would expect.
Davis, who had 27 points in the exhibition game (causing some Tennessee fans to drool uncontrollably ) had only 6 points on 3-11 shooting.
Westbrook had 6 points but did add 6 assists. She appears to have a good handle on the game but 0-4 on threes is a problem for a team that needs better three point shooting.
Hayes showed off her speed again in this game, getting to the line 13 times and making 12. But speed with no control just hurts the team and she added 8 turnovers.
Kushkituah is a horse and I mean that in a good way. In her limited minutes she was 2-2 from the field for her four points. And she grabbed four rebounds and had 3 blocks. But she is too slow to defend anywhere but under the basket and fouls way too much.
I'm sure the Tennessee fans will focus on the positive. Hey, that's what they do. But there were 24 turnovers, 26% on threes and 61% on free throws to worry about. More of the same from last season.
Maybe it's not the players Coach Warlick????
*********************************************************************************
Of special note, Sabrina Ionescu had her fifth career triple-double with 29 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. 110-77 victory over Drake in No. 11 Oregon's second round of the preseason WNIT.
This young woman is a special talent and has a great chance to make the 10 player AA team at the end of the season.
