Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife of 42 years!!!!

In case you missed it here is my UConn/Stanford post game report.

*********************************************************************************

Tomorrow is a big day for the future of UConn women's basketball. Olivia Nelson-Ododa will announce her decision on where she will attend college in 2018. The 6'4" post is just a wonderful player coming off a knee injury that kept her out all of last year.

I think UConn has a great chance here. Keep your fingers crossed!!

I went to the UConn men's game against Stony Brook Tuesday night and for much of the game I sat there wondering if I can handle a team that plays this poorly. Players just stand around on offense and struggle to guard the perimeter on defense.

It was an ugly game for the Huskies, and they were down 9 after a three pointer by Stony Brook pushed the lead to 62-53 with 5:37 remaining. Then Jalen Adams went on a 9-0 by himself to tie up the game and UConn finished the game on a 17-2 run to win 72-64.

It ended up an exciting and fun game!!

No. 6 Notre Dame defeated a game Western Kentucky team 78-65. Jessica Shepard had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Good for her and Notre Dame that she was able to get that waiver that allowed her to play this season after transferring from Nebraska. But boo to the NCAA for granting that waiver.

I would love to hear the logic behind her getting this waiver. It just doesn't make sense based on the rules and past situations that they didn't grant the waiver.

I just don't get it. Maybe a little Irish favor???

In Sunday's opening season victory, UConn held Stanford to 4 points in the 2nd period. Ten minutes, four points. Stanford has 1 field goal and 2 free throws. They went the final 8:26 of the period without a field goal. Quite the defensive performance. Despite the lack of scoring, that was only the 2nd worst point total by an opponent in the last two years.

SMU was held to 2 points in the 1st period last season. Other teams also were held to single digits against the Huskies. Chattanooga only scored 5 points in their game versus the Huskies a year ago. Mighty Texas was held to 5 points in the final period in December. DePaul only had 6 points to open their game against UConn. The Huskies scored 37 in that same period. UCF had a New Year's surprise, only getting 6 points to open their game. So, low scoring periods are nothing new for the Huskies.

However, holding Stanford to 14 total points in the whole first half is significant. Only Chattanooga, who scored 12 points in that half, had fewer points than Stanford. UCF comes in 3rd with 16 points in a half, followed by five teams that only scored 18 in twenty minutes in a particular half. They are USF, SMU, Tulane, Houston, and Temple.

Go Huskies..!!
