In the Texas A&M game against USC Friday night, the Aggies won 76-75 on a jumper with 9 seconds left by freshman Chennedy Carter, who had an incredible 46 points. This is one talented player. She played 37 minutes, shot 17-28 from the field, 8-9 from the line and 4-8 on threes. That is a lot of shots, especially for a freshman.

Yet, someone has to make a ridiculous comment on this on the UConn message board.

"I wonder what the UCONN freshmen think when they see other freshmen getting the opportunity to play and shine; some who they know are not any better than they are. I know they know what they signed up for and will be better players for it but, I still wonder what goes through their minds when they see other freshmen playing a lot. Oh well"

I'm not sure that any of the UConn freshman have that thought go through their mind. If it does, they weren't the players that Geno recruited. What I think is that it's what goes through this GROWN MAN'S mind...lol.

If they aren't happy, the freshman will transfer. But I'm sure bidding their time as a freshman on the bench with a Final Four trip makes up for some of that possible pining for more playing time somewhere else.

Last night, DoggyDaddy highlighted a great scoring performance by USF player Kitija Laksa. She made 11-12 three-point shots and scored a career-high 40 points in a 60 point blowout for the Bulls.

For the season, Laksa is 49-99 from beyond the arc for 49.5% accuracy. That would be amazing in practice, much less in game situations. Her scoring average is 24.9 points per game through 10 games. Very impressive...  :)

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the 40 points and 11-12 three-point shooting was against Southern. They are 1-7 and live in the cellar of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Don't get me wrong, USF is one of my favorites after the Huskies. My daughter received both her degrees from there and they have lots of my money.  8-)   Still, it got me thinking about how Laksa has performed against UConn. Consider her results in three games last season:

1. Overall shooting = 14-49 or 28.6%
2. Three-point shots  = 7-22 or 31.8%
3. Points scored = 35 or 11.6 per game
4. Assists = 1
5. Turnovers = 6

Clearly, UConn is able to keep Laksa in check better than the rest of women's basketball. They have done that with shut-down defenders Gabby and Kia, as well as a stingy switching defense. She is very good, but has yet to play her best against the Huskies.

One other thing... In the 3rd game last year, the AAC championship, a player named Katie Lou went 10-10 from three-point range and scored 40 points. Now that is playing your best when it matters..!!  :D

Go Huskies..!!
