Gun Violence
by Bernard J. Byrne
The mass shootings that have been plaguing our Country are a National disgrace. The killing of innocent children in their schools are especially horrendous and calls for our Country to seek wide support for meaningful measures to stop the violence.
Improved mental health care, better background checks, improved follow-up on tips to law enforcement, solidifying safety measures at our schools with increased security and armed personnel and not having Gun Free Zones in schools, which only encourage killers looking for easy targets. These are some of the many ways to improve the safety of our citizens but we still have to be careful not to destroy our Country's Constitution and it's Second Amendment, which many on the Left would love to see happen.
If we were to take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, only the criminals would have guns. Are we so naïve to think the banning of guns would keep them out of the hands of those who wish to do us harm?
Yes, we must act now to stop gun violence but we must use the sensible options that are available. We can not disarm the whole Country and leave our citizens unarmed and at the mercy of those who would do them harm.
If we were to take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, only the criminals would have guns. Are we so naïve to think the banning of guns would keep them out of the hands of those who wish to do us harm?
Recent history shows us that Totalitarian countries, like Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Iran, Irag and others always tried to disarm their people.
Here are some facts:
- In 2017 there were over 15,000 gun deaths in the United States. How many of those deaths could have been reversed had the victims been armed?
- There were over 500 gun related deaths in the City of Chicago, which has some of the toughest anti-gun laws in the country.
- There were over 40,000 deaths by vehicles in 2017, in the United States but I'm sure we're not going to take all the vehicles off our highways.
- The "Roe vs, Wade" decision by our Supreme Court, which has allowed the abortion of more than 60 Million boys and girls in this country since 1973, has sown a culture of death, that has rotted the soul and fabric of our society. This rotting from within must be healed before we can truly end this culture of death.
Yes, we must act now to stop gun violence but we must use the sensible options that are available. We can not disarm the whole Country and leave our citizens unarmed and at the mercy of those who would do them harm.
May God Bless those innocent victims of gun violence and may God Bless the USA!
Bloggers Note: I believe in order to end all violence in our country, we need to bring God back into the public forum, including in our schools.
Christians need to once again stand up for our religious beliefs and stop the 'pc police' from silencing us.
