The set up for this joke is that Ted Cruz, O'Rourke's opponent in the Texas Senate race, has "attacked" O'Rourke for having been in a rock band when he was young and, of course, for being a liberal in Texas. So for Texas, it should be country music, but for O'Rourke, it would be liberal country music, and then we get a series of song titles that play on famous country song titles (or famous lines). The funniest ones are probably "Kale Miner's Daughter," "A They Named Sue," and "I Shot a Man in Reno Just to Watch Him Use Affordable Health Care." Also on Friday's show, Maher urged Democrats to let Al Franken back in the game. The idea was that comedy is Donald Trump's "kryptonite" and all other interests must be subordinated to destroying Trump.
