COUNTY CUP Story one
Ballincollig 2 Hill Albion 0

Ballincollig’s manager Martin O’Neill was “disappointed with the performance but happy with the result” after seeing his first division outfit defeat third division Hill Albion 2-0 in the third round of the Murphy’s Stout County Cup.

Before the Regional Park game, Hill Albion’s manager John O’Regan knew his side were up against it: “Ballincollig will start as favourites but we are ready to have a cut off them over the 90 minutes”.

The Ballincollig pressure paid off in the 24th minute, following Trevor O'Mahony’s corner from the right. He found the head of Barry O’Driscoll who made no mistake

The 64th minute proved unlucky for Albion. Galvin, helped in no small way by Barry O’Driscoll, crossed from the right and the  delivery went off a Hill defender and over the line to make it 2-0.

Hill, to their credit, fought until the end and had a few chances in the closing quarter. Don Kearney brought Garret into diving action to keep out a well hit 35 yard free kick and, in the 72nd minute, Kearney’s header from a cross by substitute Dinny O’Leary flashed inches wide.

Just before Michael O’Farrell blew the final whistle, Dinny O’Leary dispossessed Ballincollig’s Matt O’Regan but drove over the bar from 25 yards.

Ballincollig: David Garrett, Colin Barrett, Declan Flanagan, Matt O’Regan, Trevor O’Mahony, Pat Flanagan, Terry Coomey, Adrian Grady, Anthony Hogan, Thomas Galvin and Barry O'Driscoll. Subs used: Jason O’Leary for Barrett (32nd minute), John Kelleher for  Coomey (59th) and Conor Prendeville for Galvin (69th).
Hill Albion: Brian O’Leary, Kevin Hoare, Pat O’Donoghue, Bernard Kiernan, Brian Cussen, Paud O’Neill, Edward O’Connell, Jason Foley, Sean O’Leary, Niall O'Connell and Don Kearney.  Subs used: Brendan Kearney for Cussen (58th minute), Dinny O’Leary for O’Connell (68th) and Aidan Daly for O’Neill (80th).
Referee:  Michael O’Farrell.
