International Opposition To Venezuelan President Maduro Coalesced In The Past Few Weeks
AP Exclusive: Inside the secret diplomacy that led the U.S. and a coalition of Latin American governments to quickly recognize Juan Guadio as Venezuela's interim president. https://t.co/OJhha2vptk— The Associated Press (@AP) January 25, 2019
WNU Editor: The opposition to the Venezuelan regime of President Maduro was always disunited and at odds with each other. That is no longer the case. The situation in Venezuela is now so dire, that whatever differences the Venezuelans may have held on how to oppose President Maduro have been swept away. This should surprise no one. The massive humanitarian crisis that almost all Venezuelans are now facing has unified an opposition that many thought was not possible only a year ago. The goal right now is to replace President Maduro and his allies ASAP, and to deal with the consequences on how to fix everything later. Many in the international community have also accepted this situation, but the big news event will happen in 8 days when member states in the EU will formally recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido as President .... Major European countries poised to recognize Venezuela's Guaido (Reuters). After that .... the international pressure is going to intensify. For the Maduro regime .... their only goal right now is to survive. But with almost no real public support in Venezuela, and being dependent on Cuban and Russian security forces for one's protection, I cannot help but feel that Maduro's days are numbered.
