Christyn Williams named AAC player of the week.

"UConn women's basketball sophomore Christyn Williams was tabbed the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Monday after helping the Huskies to two league wins. Williams averaged 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists and a steal in UConn's 2-0 play last week."

I have links in the UConn section.

I will remind everyone that I posted this before the Wichita State game.

"I'm thinking this is a good game for Williams to break out."

I hope it's the start of a great season with more accolades for Williams.

Can UConn hold on to the number one ranking in the next 4 weeks with so many tough games coming up.

No. 2 Oregon, No. 4 South Carolina and No. 6 Baylor (on Thursday).  I don't really think No. 23 Tennessee is that much of a threat. I hope I didn't jinx the Huskies.

On February 9th they would be 21-2 with losses to only top ten ranked teams.

So who are the challengers to the top spot?

My guess is Oregon, Oregon State and South Carolina. So, what would their records be after February 10th?

Oregon plays No. 18 Arizona  twice, No. 5 Stanford once and No. 3 Oregon State twice. And UConn once. I'll give them all the home wins and the win over UConn.

On February 9th they would be 21-3.

Oregon State plays No. 2 Oregon twice, No. 18 Arizona twice and No. 5 Stanford.  I'll give them 3-2 on these games.

On February 9th they would be 22-2.

South Carolina plays No. 21 Arkansas twice, No. 23 Tennessee and  No. 13 Mississippi State. I'll give them only one loss, on the road to Arkansas.

On Februray 9th they would be  21-2.

It would be interesting to see where the voters put this four teams.

The February 10th game between UConn and South Carolina could be the decider in the No. 1 team in the rankings. And it still doesn't matter. Last poll of the year does!

So, here was what Professor Phil posted in my previous blog -

In theory, Texas, Minnesota, Miami and Tennessee should all drop from the top 25, leaving room for South Dakota, Michigan, Rutgers and Princeton, but watch them just Move Tennessee down a spot, leaving Princeton out.

He was partially correct.

Texas, Minnesota and Miami all dropped out of the rankings.

He was correct about the moving Tennessee down only one spot to No. 23.  However it was Rutgers that was left out of the rankings.

Still, the Prof sure has a handle on this rankings thing!!
