Cards Host FSU

It is going to be a late night with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cards have their first true, tough ACC opponent with #17 Florida State visiting.

The Seminoles are 18-4 overall with a 7-4 mark in conference play.  So far, they have proven to be tough both on the road at 7-2, and against ranked opponents at 4-1.

Sue Semrau pilots the 'Noles. She's in her 23rd. year at FSU and has complied a 444-252 record in Tallahassee.

The Noles have shown to be tough on offense, averaging 74.3 points per game.  There is a trio of seniors averaging double-digit points in Kiah Gillespie (15.1), Nicki Ekhomu (14.8), and Nausia Woolfolk (14.5).  Gillespie is no stranger to double-doubles with nine, and recorded a triple-double against Michigan earlier in the year.  They have 307 assists on the year, averaging out to be nearly 14 per game on an average of 27 made baskets per game.

FSU also has a tough defense, surrendering 59.5 points per game.  That mark is good enough for fourth in the ACC.  They have held opponents to under .400 shooting from the field on the year and under .300 from tree-point range.  Their 96 blocks is 33 more than their opponents have recorded.

One positive note is that the Seminoles have not topped 90 points in any game this year.  However, they have allowed 70 or more just twice in a 74-70 win against St Johns and a 90-89 loss at Syracuse.

Louisville is 1-2 against FSU in their last three meetings including two years ago when the Seminoles ruined the Cards' unbeaten streak.  Overall, Louisville is 14-16 against Florida State but are 7-7 in Louisville.

The game is a Red Out and will be aired on ACC Network on tv.  Of course, you can always tune into 790 AM to hear Nick Curran and AJ call the game.  The next two games are on the road so this is a good chance to see them at home before their road trip.

LACROSSE INTERVIEW

Paulie and I will be heading to Cincinnati on Sunday to see Louisville Lacrosse in their season opener against the Bearcats. Paulie talked with head coach Scott Teeter on Wednesday to discuss preparation and practice for the season opener, the opponent and the recent honors Caroline Blalock received.

Teeter has a lot of confidence in this year's squad and says the players are at the point where they need to get out and play someone besides themselves.

We're also working on setting up something weekly and similar with Louisville Softball and will update you on the progress of that.

We appreciate these program's coaches taking a little time out of their busy preparations to give us the "who, what, where, when, why and how" of their squads and season !
