Summer Softball Returns -- SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
Softball Pair Plays Summer Ball
Though the collegiate softball and baseball seasons were scrapped early and Major League Baseball still hasn't figured out what they're doing, diamond sports will return this summer and two Louisville players will take part. The Florida Gulf Coast League, an annual collegiate summer league that plays home to softball and baseball players in the offseason, will get underway next week as Florida opens its doors to sporting events once more. We already knew that Florida would be playing host to the NBA season as well as the MLS tournament so it's no surprise that they would find a home for diamond sports as well.
Paige Schindler and Jordyn Wolfe will be the two representatives from Louisville softball heading south. The pair will actually report tomorrow with camp set to start on Monday and the regular season beginning on 6/18. The FGC Softball League will have a 25-game regular season with a postseason playoff and all-star events.
Playing in summer leagues is almost a given for college diamond sport athletes, but things have obviously been a bit more strange this year. Many baseball leagues are in the Northeast, none of which I have seen mention that they would be playing this year. As such, we have seen many fewer players announce that they'll be playing summer ball. I am a bit surprised that no Louisville baseball players will be participating in this Florida League, but perhaps it has to do with some team decision that we don't know about.In any case, we wish Paige and Jordyn the best while they continue to hone their skills and hope that they are able to stay safe and healthy in these uncertain times. We'll look forward to seeing their continued development when they return to Ulmer Stadium next spring.
Cardinal Couple Radio Hour
We should have a full house this morning on the Cardinal Couple Radio Hour Podcast, where we'll have sports topics to discuss as well as a weekly quiz. We had mascots last week, and Jared stole the show from a remote location.
