Bloomberg: U.S., China Top Envoys Discuss Meeting in Alaska, SCMP Says

 * Antony Blinken, Yang Jiechi would be at talks, newspaper says
 * Ties between two nations were battered during Trump presidency

The U.S. and China are in talks for top diplomats to meet in Alaska, the South China Morning Post reported, as the world’s two largest economies seek to stabilize their strained relationship.

The proposed meeting in Anchorage would include U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi, the Hong Kong-based newspaper reported, citing a person briefed on the discussions. The talks could also include Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the paper said.

In response to a question about the report Tuesday, U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said the agency didn’t “have any future travel or meetings to announce at this time.”

The meeting would represent the most high-level exchange between the two sides since President Joe Biden took office in January. WNU Editor: SCMP is now saying that Washington has confirmed direct engagement between US and Chinese diplomats .... Exclusive: Washington confirms direct engagement between US and Chinese diplomats (SCMP).

What's my take?

If all of this is true, the Chinese leadership will see this as a U.S. capitulation and will arrive in Alaska with a list of demands.

On the top of their list of demands will be the annulment of the trade deal that they made with President Trump in 2020 that many in China felt was harmful to their economy. After that it is then the following: The removal of US tariffs and economic restrictions. A U.S. return to a Taiwan policy before Trump. No measures against Beijing's Hong Kong and Uighur policies. Respecting China's territorial claims in the South China Sea and elsewhere.
