Iran says the main goal of the event is to emphasise the call for the formation of an ‘inclusive’ government in Afghanistan. 

Tehran, Iran – Senior officials of Afghanistan’s neighbouring states have gathered in Iran’s capital for a one-day conference to discuss the situation in the Taliban-ruled country. 

The foreign ministers of Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan met on Wednesday in Tehran, joined by their counterparts from China and Russia via video link. 

Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber inaugurated the meeting, replacing President Ebrahim Raisi who was unable to do so due to “another urgent priority”. 

The conference came a day after Iran’s online petrol distribution software was hacked in a massive cyberattack that affected petrol stations across the country.

WNU Editor: Since the Taliban takeover of the country 3 million Afghans have fled the country and half of the country is facing hunger (or worse). And what does not help the situation is that the Taliban are clueless on what to do .... “The Taliban don’t know what to do”—Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis (The Economist). 

What is needed to stabilize the situation is to replace the billions in aid that the U.S. and the EU pumped into the country every year when they were there. But I do not see this group giving anywhere near that type of funds to the Taliban.
