The Guardian: Trudeau accuses far-right website of spreading vaccine misinformation

Canadian PM’s response to Rebel Media goes viral after court victory allows them to attend election debate

Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, has slammed a far-right website in the final days of the country’s federal election, accusing it of spreading misinformation about coronavirus vaccines and contributing to the growing number of protests across the country.

After Wednesday night’s French language debate between federal leaders, Trudeau was asked by a member of Rebel News – a website whose contributors have included Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson – if he would continue to exclude the group from covering the election.

WNU Editor: The above Guardian post has a few errors. Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson have not contributed to Rebel News in years.

Rebel News has condemned violence against politicians, from last weeks gravel throwing incident against Trudeau to someone hitting People Party leader Bernier two weeks ago.

It should be noted that the courts have ruled in favor of Rebel News. Saying bluntly that they are a news organization and that they have a right to attend these events.

Rebel News also has more YouTube and social media followers than CTV News (Canada's largest news broadcaster), and second after CBC News.

Rebel News also does not get any aid or financial assistance form the Federal government, unlike 95% of Canadian media. Rebel News, like most independent Canadian news sites, are crowd funded.

When it comes to Canada I personally get a lot of my news from the main stream media, but I also check out independent media. I have discovered during the pandemic that they cover news that the other main stream news organizations refuse to cover.

Case in point.

On September 2 there was a massive demonstration in Montreal against vaccine passports and covid restrictions in the province of Quebec. I would say about 20,000 people participated, and maybe more. I should know because I accidentally came across it when they were marching.

Later in the evening I wanted to see what the coverage was .... and there was none from the national news networks. But Rebel News was there, and reported on it fairly.

This is not spreading vaccine misinformation as Prime Minister Trudeau claims. This is what I call reporting the news.

As to last night. Below is a video on the questions that Rebel News asked after last night's debate. Tough questions yes, but completely fair.

Update: Here is a good example on Canadian independent news media in operation (from True North - see below).
